Background
Saudi Aramco aims to push the economic development and enhance the hydrocarbon resources in the Kingdom by increasing sales gas production capacity in commercial quantities. As part of the plans, they have decided to undertake a gas development programme in Wasit. In order to meet an increasing demand from the industrial sector as well as providing feedstock to domestic petrochemical companies, Saudi Aramco has shown an interest in developing its gas reserves. The Arabiyah and Hasbah development is a part of Wasit gas development program. Arabiyah and Hasbah are the two offshore non-associated gas fields that was discovered by Saudi Aramco. The development is also part of Saudi Aramco’s plan that aims at increasing gas supplies by producing an additional 50 trillion cubic feet of non-associated gas reserves by 2016.
Project status
March 2016: Saudi Aramco starts its first production from its offshore Hasbah field, piping gas into the Wasit processing plant.
