Global Energy Monitor (GEM), with Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC), has launched the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier tracker, showing 820 active vessels worldwide, nearly one-third under five years old.
The fleet is set to grow 39 per cent with 283 ships on order and 39 proposed, mostly built in South Korea (67 per cent) and China (27 per cent). Despite growth, LNG oversupply risks stranded investments, while the fleet’s operations produce 12.7 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually, highlighting climate challenges for the industry.
