Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has inaugurated the expanded Cabeolica Wind Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Cabo Verde, enabled by $64 million in bridge financing.
The expansion adds 13.5 MW of wind capacity and 26 MWh of storage across four islands, enhancing grid stability, renewable integration, and energy security.
Since 2010, Cabeolica has provided 25.5 MW of wind power, generating over 800,000 MWh and offsetting 560,000 tonnes of carbon.
The BESS, reaching nearly 30 MW by January 2026, stabilises the grid and reduces fossil fuel reliance.
AFC’s financing accelerated the project, reinforcing its leadership in Africa’s renewable energy transition.
