Sigma laboratory ... new coatings to bring major changes to selection and specification of lining

SigmaKalon has produced a series of solvent-free coatings that are set to bring major changes to the selection and specification of tank and vessel lining and the coating of pipelines, led by the technical demands of it’s customers.

This decisive development has been shown to significantly reduce application time and cost, and, provide a significant improvement in service life.
100 per cent solids coatings are not new, indeed the Thames Barrier in London, England was coated with Sigma’s solvent-free products as far back as 1977.
Current coatings do not require the sophisticated, twin-feed hot airless application equipment necessary for the earlier products. Sigma has been installing the new generation of solvent-free products since 1996,all over the world, on shipping, storage tanks and industrial processing vessels.
The products have a wide range of benefits to owners and applicators. For applicators, the speed of application, is a major consideration, but this is just the beginning; no solvent additions are needed to adjust the viscosity, this leads to a healthier work place and also removes the major fire and explosion hazards. The coatings are applied directly to clean steel or concrete, no primer is required, and high film thicknesses are applied in one, multi-pass, coat. For owners and operators, the accumulated benefits will result in lower costs and improved quality. This is achieved by a reduction of down-time, during maintenance; in new construction, the simplicity of application enables even difficult and concealed areas to be coated, without the risk of solvent entrapment, and subsequent failure, associated with multi-coat application. Since 100 per cent solids coatings do not shrink, edge-coverage is assured, this will remove the sites of early corrosion, at edges where conventional paints shrink on drying.
This is only a snap-shot of the ways in which SigmaKalon’s development works hand-in-hand with it’s client industry, to produce real improvements in performance with no increase in cost; since the introduction of the products, experience has taught the firm that nobody has only used them once, everybody goes back for more. “Customer satisfaction is our motivation, our interests are the same,” claims the firm.
