Gasco facilities ... management has taken a closer look at HSE Management Systems

Gasco Habshan Gas Complex and its major gas and pipelines project contractors achieved two years of lost time injury operation and project completion with 58 million man-hours at the end of June last year, a record achievement according to Adnoc.

From mid-1999, the Gasco had a number of simultaneous activities taking place at its Asab and Habshan complexes, shutting down each of the processing trains to carry out major tie-in modifications, while other processing trains required additional HSE vigilance.

Gasco management took a closer look at the HSE Management Systems at Habshan, as well as those of the EPC contractors, in order to intensify efforts to prevent any Lost Time Injuries (LTIs).

HSE management starts with teamwork between the company and contractor, who work from the conceptual stage through front end engineering and design (FEED) to ensure safe designs and 'Fit for Purpose' standards.

Gasco's Habshan gas complex has eight parallel gas processing trains to produce more than three billion cu ft per day of different types of associated and non-associated gas from 113 wells.

It is the single largest gas complex of its kind in the world. Gasco also operates 1,800 km of cross-country gas pipelines, spread throughout Abu Dhabi and to Jebel Ali in Dubai.

The underground 30 to 40 bar high pressure gas pipeline network (pipelines ranging from 4" to 48" in diameter) delivers gas to consumers in Eastern, Western and Central regions of Abu Dhabi, as well as Jebel Ali.

Gas consumers include desalination and power plants, Adnoc companies Fertil and Takreer, as well as industries in Mussafah industrial estate.

The Habshan gas complex generates its own power and utilities and operates high pressure compressors to inject gas into crude for the enhancement of crude oil recovery and to maintain pressure in condensate reservoirs.
