Bahrain was gripped by a severe dust haze as a result of a "shamaal" wind over the Arabian Peninsula, according to a Civil Aviation Affairs Meteorology Directorate official.

The dust haze is expected to continue today, but would thin out by the evening, he said.

Bahrain has been witnessing rough weather since the beginning of last month with dust haze and poor visibility.

"While it is not abnormal for this kind of weather at this time of the year, the haze, when accompanied with high temperature and humidity, brings about a feeling of extreme discomfort," said the official.

A moderate dust haze would return to the area by Friday evening.

"However, there will be moderate to low speed winds accompanying the dust haze. There is also a precautionary low visibility warning to fishermen venturing out into the sea," said the official.

The conditions improved last week, but meteorology officials had then said the rough weather was expected to return.-TradeArabia News Service
