Woqod (Qatar Fuel) has acquired two bunker fuel ships at a cost of QR33 million ($9.1 million) to supply fuel to vessels within the country’s territory.

The ships have German-made engines and have been registered with Lloyds after successfully passing technical inspection tests.
The company’s vice-chairman and managing director, Mohamed Turki Al Subai, said in a statement that the fuel supply ships are known as ‘Sidra Doha’ and ‘Sidra Al Khaleej’.
Woqod’s objective is to provide high quality services to its customers and respond to local demand, said Al Subai.
Woqod intends to provide various petroleum products such as diesel and heavy fuel oils for ships, dredgers, supply vessels to offshore platforms and government projects in the country, including its territorial waters.
These projects include Ras Laffan port expansion, LNG pipeline project (Dolphin) and the upcoming Doha International Airport, in addition to providing petroleum products to vessels and LNG carriers visiting Qatari ports or offshore at anchorage.
The two ships acquired are each 85 metres long, 14 metres wide and 6.5 metres deep and their loading capacity exceeds 3,800 tonnes each. Woqod now owns three ships.
The first was ‘Sidra Qatar’ bought a few years ago to ship and store bitumen, which is used in road paving and other infrastructure work.
Woqod, Al Subai said, is taking effective steps to diversify its activities and sources of income to maximise profits for the shareholders.
