License2Share ... a collaborative platform

CGI, a leading global IT and business process services provider, has partnered with information management specialist, OpenText, the Exploration and Production Information Management Association (EPIM) and operators in the Norwegian Continental Shelf to develop a collaborative information management platform.

EPIM worked with CGI and OpenText to develop the system called License2Share, a collaborative platform, which is used by operators across the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), enabling them to streamline work processes, eliminate duplication and inefficiencies.

The collaborative platform facilitates the sharing of information across organisational relationships to provide data on contracts, production, drilling, health and safety, as well as governance data to enable regulatory compliance and reporting.

CGI’s estimates show that adopters of the platform experience 30 per cent less administration, with associated IT savings of up to 50 per cent.

License2Share has been in use since 2009 and is now used by 57 organisations. Apart from being used in Norway, License2Share is used in seven other countries.

Sam Speirs, senior director in CGI’s Oil and Gas business in the UK, presented the approach taken in Norway to tackle information complexity in a collaborative environment at the Oil & Gas UK conference in Aberdeen.  CGI aims to encourage UK operators to learn from the NCS example and to take a more collaborative approach to sharing data.

“In the current economic climate, operators need to focus on maximising economic opportunities.” Commented Speirs. “In order to minimise costs and maximise revenues, much closer collaboration between operators, partners and regulators is needed. The experience of CGI working with the oil and gas sector in Norway is just one example of the potential benefit for the industry of a collaborative approach. License2Share has been developed by industry for the industry and shows what can be achieved through the efficient management of information in constructive collaboration. This collaborative approach will benefit everyone involved,” he added.

With over 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector, CGI helps oil and gas companies to improve efficiency, reduce costs and optimise asset utilisation, enabling operators to focus more on their core business and less on their IT infrastructures. CGI’s integrated solutions for financial, production, land and asset management address the needs of any petroleum company or natural resource trust department, regardless of size-from the smaller producers to the super majors.
