Bahraini and French officials at the Terra Academia launch
The initiative integrates finance industry education with advance regional ecological transformation
Bahrain has launched a higher-education platform integrating sustainability, industrial innovation and finance.
The initiative, created by Veolia, Terra Academia International and Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, seeks to establish the Middle East’s first ‘green university’ dedicated to ecological transformation.
It aims to train 5,000 students and professionals by 2030.
Launch attendees included Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Khalid Ebrahim Humaidan, Eric Giraud-Telme and Khalid Al Rumaihi, underscoring institutional alignment.
Speaking to OGN energy magazine, Jean-Michel Blanquer, Chairman, Terra Academia, says the programmes will initially operate within BIBF, starting with an executive seminar in April 2026 and a Master’s in Waste Management in 2027. A dedicated campus is under consideration.
He defines the model as an architect of transformation programmes uniting academic and economic institutions to deliver scientific, financial and operational competencies directly applicable to corporate strategy.
The faculty will come from across the world, including Bahrain, reflecting what Blanquer calls a worldwide approach.
French academic traditions, including perspectives linked to Philippe Aguillon and research excellence exemplified by University of Strasbourg, are expected to influence curricula alongside shared expertise in decarbonation, electrification and energy transition technologies.
As the first cohort approaches, the platform is positioned at the intersection of policy, finance and industry, designed to align scientific rigour with capital deployment and corporate execution globally from 2026 onward.
