North Sea ... Walker aiming to use its advanced composite pipe repair kit in the region

A leading supplier of composite pipe repair solutions, Aberdeen-based Walker Technical Resources, is reinforcing its global capabilities with a new centre of excellence for pipe repair in Norway.

The firm provides a range of composite technology which will solve or prevent problems relating to the maintenance of pipework and pipelines for the major oil and gas operating companies in the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Canada and the Middle East
Since entering into a distributor service agreement with Namtvedt Offshore, WTR has seen is exports to Norway almost treble and today Norwegian business accounts for 15 per cent of the company’s turnover.
The centre of excellence in Norway is part of WTR’s strategy to revoutionise the way in which offshore operators respond to the need for emergency pipework repairs. The highly accredited and award-winning company is aiming to have trained personnel and its Technowrap 2K advanced composite pipe repair kit on the majority of installations in the North Sea.
Over 12 offshore technicians have already undergone specialist training with WTR in Norway.
Speaking from ONS in Stavanger, managing director, Graham Birnie, says : “Adding a centre of excellence in Norway to our global network puts us well on the way to achieving our aim of having trained people and a Technowrap 2K repair kit on every installation in the North Sea. With many ageing platforms in the North Sea, pipework and storage tanks require routine maintenance, but this often necessitates help from a technician who is onshore and even a possible costly shut-down. Technowrap 2K is one of a new generation of advanced composite materials that provides a permanent repair in a cost-efficient manner which minimizes downtime.”
“ONS is an excellent opportunity to showcase our range of advanced pipe repair systems. At the last show our Technowrap 2K product attracted significant interest from the Norwegian sector on which we have successfully capitalised. We have no doubt that this year will be equally successful for us.”
Founded in 1992, WTR is a wholly owned private company, operating in the UK, Norway, North America and the Middle East.
