

The National Company for Mechanical and Electrical Works Ltd (Kharafi National) was formed in 1976, and in the following years progressed to become the leading mechanical, electrical and instrumentation contractor in Kuwait's industrial and commercial sectors.
Involvement in the oil and gas sector commenced during the end of 1980s with the installation of pipelines and process plant facilities. In the period since the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, Kharafi National has re-established itself as the leading contractor in its fields of specialties.
In the new millennium, the company is ready to meet all challenges and has defined its mission, to maintain its pre-eminence in commercial and industrial contracting, to significantly increase its market share of oil and gas related projects, and to continue to expand its horizons throughout the Gulf, the Middle East and beyond.
Kharafi National has implemented a Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9002 in June 1996 and then was reassessed and certified to ISO-9001:2000 in June 2002.
The quality system has fully documented procedures and work instructions designed to provide an instruction to the workforce of the control required during the execution of our projects.
During 1997, and in order to broaden and strengthen the company's profile, particularly in the oil and gas sector, Kharafi National acquired and became the majority shareholding partner in Al Bahar
Jacorossi Engineering and Contracting Company (ABJ), which provided further opportunities to become involved in construction and maintenance projects in the oil and gas, power, water and petrochemical fields of operation.
The combined strength of the company’s infrastructures, project management, engineering personnel, skilled workforce, production facilities, plant and equipment now available with the group has few, if any, parallels in the Middle East.
Additionally the company has significantly increased its involvement in the power, petroleum and chemical sector, both inside and outside of Kuwait.
The company has extended its operations to the UAE, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia and Qatar.
The company has also branch offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Cairo and Doha.
KN has established modern central fabrication workshop facilities.
The yard has a total area of 20,000 sq metres.
The workshop has been supplied with efficient capabilities to fabricate a high quality of structural steel, pressure piping and pressure vessels in full compliance with the recognised international codes and standards.
Concurrently, Kharafi National has also made significant investments in new construction equipment and employed Senior Management Personnel with extensive experience in the Industrial Contracting sector.
Kharafi National reported a significant growth and steady over the recent years, and today offers and represents :
• A multinational workforce consisting of over 9,500 skilled personnel of which some 28 per cent are in the non-manual categories of management, engineers, superintendents, technical and clerical staff.
• An annual turnover is in excess of $350,000,000
• A large fleet of company owned heavy construction plant/equipments.
• A piping and structural steel Fabrication Workshop equipped with state-of-the-art technology in Robot (Computer Controlled Welding System) plasma cutting equipment and piping/flange rotating devices. The value of the plant/equipment at workshop is in excess of $85,000,000.
• A complete Quality Assurance Systems and Procedures that meet the requirements of ISO 9001: 2000.
• Certification for fabrication which allows the use of ASME 'U' and 'P' stamps.
• To support the company'sengineering, construction foundation and structure, Trading Department is developed seeking association with compatible organisations for product/services representation in commercial and industrial as well as oil and gas sectors in our territories.
