Madhi ... ‘we are adding new barges and increasing yard cranes capacity’

THE Abu Dhabi-based National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has steadily marched forward and emerged as one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for offshore and onshore oil and gas sector in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), Indian sub-continent and South East Asia.

NPCC, owned by Senaat (GHC) and the Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), has been in the business for 40 years, and has been serving region’s multi-billion oil and gas industry. The company provides total EPC services to the project owners and operators.

The company has state-of-the-art facilities in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi spread over an area of one million sq m and has relationships with most of the regional and international companies based on its proven track record of delivery, quality, safety and customer satisfaction. The company’s yard is capable of fabricating 70,000 million tonnes (mt) of structural steel every year and employs around 10,000 people.

It has an impressive list of clients in Abu Dhabi which include Adnoc, Adma-Opco, Adco, Zadco, Total-ABK, Bunduq, Gasco and Takreer.

In addition to its achievements in the UAE, the company has successfully completed several major and significant EPC projects for QP, Qatargas, Maersk and Oxy in Qatar; Saudi Aramco and Agoc/Aoc in Saudi Arabia and for KOC and KNPC in Kuwait.

India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is a major client of NPCC and have been working for ONGC more than 25 years on its offshore oil and gas projects.

The company’s expertise covers engineering, procurement, fabrication, pressure vessel fabrication, pipe coating, onshore and offshore construction, installation and commissioning.

Engineering: NPCC has the ability to provide front end, detailed, construction, and installation engineering design services with the help of over 555 dedicated engineering staff supported by state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and software to meet complex engineering challenges.

Encouraged by its relationship with ONGC, NPCC has set up an engineering subsidiary NPCC Engineering Limited (NEL) in India. NEL’s facility is directly linked to NPCC in Abu Dhabi via satellite communication link thus serving its clients in the region more efficiently.

Procurement: NPCC’s worldwide e-procurement services – eProcure – reduce costs and optimise cycle times. eProcure also shares information with stakeholders so that strategic purchasing decision can be made efficiently and knowledge pooled for the benefit of NPCC and its clients.

Offshore activities: The offshore department provides full marine spreads for pipe laying, installation and hook-up works using specially built derrick-lay barge (DLB-1000) and two jack up barges (SEP-350) and (SEP-150) for offshore maintenance and hook-up works.

At present, NPCC owns and operates a modern marine fleet comprising of 17 construction barges, capable of lifting single structures weighing up to 4,200 mt and laying a submarine pipeline up to 66 inches in diameter. NPCC shall soon add three new barges, DLS-4200, SEP-450 and SEP-550 to its fleet.

Onshore activities: NPCC builds storage tanks and spheres for storing various types of petroleum products such as liquid sulphur, water, diesel oil, crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Its fabrication yard has all the modern facilities and is custom built for construction, assembly and load-out with total capacity that reaches 70,000 mt per annum (mtpa).

Quality, recognition and awards: As an expression of its commitment towards excellence, NPCC certified its quality system to ISO-9001:2000 (by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance). The company has won several awards from international institutions for its excellent track record in safety. NPCC’s HSE-MS meets both local and international safety standards and many clients have commended the company’s performance and are certified to ISO-14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007.

NPCC’s outstanding performance in the oil and gas industry has enabled NPCC to achieve several accolades from different local and international organisations; including the most prestigious “Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award” in 2005 and 2009, and “Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award” in 2006, 2010 and 2012 in the construction category.

According to Aqeel A Madhi, CEO of NPCC, the company is expanding its current activities in west coast of India, South East Asia, Oman, Iraq, Caspian Sea and Africa. “We are building further expertise in offshore EPC, which includes expanding our marine fleet, adding new barges and increasing yard cranes capacity to 800 mt,” he adds.
