Background
As part of the North Field Expansion (NFE) programme, the project includes the first onshore package involving the construction of four LNG mega trains. The new liquefaction facilities are part of plans to expand the country’s LNG production from 77 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 110 mtpa by 2024.
Project Status
In June and July 2022, QatarEnergy chose TotalEnergies, ENI, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Shell as the strategic partners for the project. The new shareholders are QatarEnergy (75 per cent), TotalEnergies (6.25 per cent), ENI (3.1 per cent), ConocoPhillips (3.1 per cent), ExxonMobil (6.25 per cent), and Shell (6.25 per cent).
Project Scope
The project scope includes four 7.8 mtpa mega-trains of LNG production, 32 mtpa total capacity for the four trains, utilities, inlets, desalination units, helium recovery, LNG and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensates storage, related loading berths, equipment for tanks, furnace/combustion, flare, machinery, water treatment, sewage, marine loading arms, and gangway and static.
