Cosmoplast products reduce expenditure

Cosmoplast and their joint venture partner Technip's Coflexlite(r) RTP production plant in Abu Dhabi was officially opened by Mohammad Ali Bin Zayed, Deputy Governor of the UAE Central Bank on April 21, 2004.

Since then, Jim Dymock, Cosmoplast General Manager, reports that "the response and interest from the regional oil and gas sector has proved extremely strong in this product".
The recognition of the benefits and advantages of the Coflexlite(r) RTP system had already been well established in the market, thus now having the product produced locally, enhancing its attraction even further.
The primary advantages against conventional oil flow or water injection lines are: no corrosion, either from the internal or external pipe environment; jointing parameters reduced from major welding and weld-testing requirements to a much simpler and easier bolted flange joint configuration; pipe jointing intervals of up to 600 metres - depending upon pipe configuration and client requirements - instead of the 10 to 12 metres of a conventional pipe; plus no need for anti-corrosion support structures used to keep conventional pipes suspended in the air and away from potentially corrosive contact with the ground.
All these properties serve the end user to dramatically reduce operational expenditure and costs associated with pipeline inspection and maintenance by providing major reductions on installation time, cost and crew logistics; and minimal ongoing maintenance requirements, thus leading to substantial cost saving benefits over the operational life of the pipeline.
Further more, RTP pipes can also be supplied without factory installed end fittings. This provides the adaptability that once on site, exact connection layouts and locations can be easily modified or re-established to match new requirements or changes in specification. Once the final layout has been decided, end fittings would take about half an hour to install by specialised hand transportable equipment.
In addition to this, it is possible to lay Coflexlite(r) directly onto the ground without the need for regular support systems, expansion loops or specialised bends. This again can generate further substantial savings on total project costs and system maintenance.
Interest in RTP has also been shown in other fluid transportation sectors, these being primarily related to where operational pressures or temperatures are running above normal thermoplastic pipe parameters, or where a supply line is urgently needed, thus allowing RTP to come into its own with its long lengths and minimum connection and installation timeframes.
