Aramco puts LNG tanker plan on hold
SINGAPORE: Saudi Aramco's shipping division Bahri has put on hold plans to charter up to 12 liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers after Sempra Energy delayed its decision on whether to proceed with an LNG export project in Texas, two sources said.
Bahri issued an expression of interest (EOI) last year to charter the vessels from 2025 in Saudi Aramco's first foray into LNG as part of the state oil giant's plan to become a major global player in the gas market.
In May last year, Aramco signed a 20-year agreement to buy LNG from Sempra Energy's planned Port Arthur export terminal and also agreed to buy a 25 per cent equity stake in the first phase of the multi-billion dollar project.
However, Sempra said this month it was delaying its decision about whether to proceed with the project until 2021 following the slump in global demand for energy because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sungrow to supply to Ibri project
IBRI: Sungrow, the global leading inverter solution supplier for renewables, has announced it will supply 1500V SG250HX inverter solutions to the 500 MWac Ibri II project in Oman, which is the largest utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plant in the sultanate to date, demonstrating the company's robust efforts in supporting Oman's ambition of lifting the renewable energy mix by 10 per cent.
The delivery of inverter solutions will commence in Q2 this year.
The Ibri II PV project is an independent power project (IPP) to be developed on a BOO (build, own, operate) basis. The $400-million project was funded on a debt to equity ratio of 70:30 and a consortium consisting of ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) and the Alternative Energy Projects Company (AEPC) has achieved the financial closure of it recently.
The project is expected to come online in the summer of 2021, barring aside any potential Covid-19 related considerations.
Lamprell wins key EPIC contract in Sharjah
SHARJAH: UAE-based Lamprell has been selected by Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) to undertake a medium-sized engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract associated with the Mahani gas and condensate field in Sharjah.
Scheduled for completion in early 2021, Lamprell's scope of work is specific to the Mahani Extended Well Test project and includes hook-up and installation at the well, existing systems upgrade, associated tie-ins and anew 25 km export pipeline.
Discovery of the onshore Mahani field was announced by SNOC and its partner Eni at the end of January2020.
Lamprell Chief Executive Christopher McDonald said: "SNOC is an important client for us and through delivering to consistently high and competitive standards, we are very proud of the track record we've developed with them. Mahani is a strategic gas discovery. We are looking forward to being associated with it."
