Opened earlier this year in Dammam at a cost of SR30 million ($8 million) Amiantit Epoxy Pipe Production Plant (Amipox) is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility producing high performance glass reinforced epoxy pipes (GRE).
Amipox GRE products are manufactured using Amiantit’s exclusive Amipox technology and serve a variety of markets including industrial, oilfield, chemical, offshore, and marine. GRE pipes are lightweight, easy to transport, easy to install, and are extremely resistant to corrosion.
They are used as a cost effective alternative to metallic piping which often degrades and fails due to corrosion.
Another Amiantit-owned technology is Flowtite(tm), the industry’s most important process used in the manufacture of glass reinforced polyester (GRP) products.
Flowtite(tm) pipes and fittings are used globally in pressure/gravity systems, for raw water pumping mains, drinking water supply pipelines, sewerage force mains, pipelines in waste water treatment plants, slip lining/re-lining for rehabilitation of networks, pipelines in desalination plants, pipelines in penstocks and power plants, fire hydrant lines, sub-aqueous applications, and many industrial applications.
In addition, GRP pipes are ideal for in-take and discharge pipelines transporting highly corrosive seawater for cooling energy generators.
The advantages of Amiantit Flowtite(tm) GRP products are that they are strong, durable and corrosion resistant - therefore eliminating leaks and failures - and there is no need for periodic corrosion survey and cathodic protection as is required for steel pipes and tanks. They are also economical in terms of installation and lower power and life cycle costs.
Amiantit licenses the Flowtite(tm) process to joint venture projects and other manufacturers throughout the world, while in Saudi Arabia, the main GRP production plant is Amiantit Fiberglass Industries Ltd (AFIL), a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company.
This year the AFIL plant in Dammam achieved a world record with the production of a four metres diameter pipe, the first to be made using an automated process.
GRP is also used to produce single wall and double wall corrosion resistant storage tanks which are ideal for above ground or undergorund storage of gasoline, aviation fuel, petrochemicals and water.
Founded in Dammam in 1968, Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company has for more than 30 years played a leading role in the construction of the national and municipal water supply and sewage networks of Saudi Arabia and its neighbours in the GCC.
In addition, by establishing production plants in the Kingdom, Amiantit has played an important part in the advancement of regional industrial development while, at the same time, making a significant contribution to the Saudi economy by reducing dependency on imports and becoming a major exporter.
Today, Amiantit is a global group of companies with 37 manufacturing facilities in 21 countries worldwide, and is internationally respected as a world class manufacturer and recognised as the industry leader in research, development and ownership of pipe manufacturing technologies.
With a group sales turn over exceeding $400 million, it is the largest manufacturer of GRP pipes and storage tanks in the world. It is also a leading manufacturer of epoxy pipes, ductile iron pipes, concrete cylinder pipes, pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipes, reinforced concrete pipes, cement mortar lining of steel pipes, polymer concrete pipes and thermoplastic pipes.
The fact that Amiantit products are in global demand is an indication of the trust and confidence that the company enjoys throughout the world.
The Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company was established in 1968 as a limited liability company and was converted into a joint stock company in 1994. It started with a paid-up share capital of SR4,000,000, which is currently standing at SR 770,000,000.
Its shares are traded on the Saudi Stock Exchange. The prime activity of the company is to initiate and manage new industrial projects, and market its technologies and products.
The company also monitors and controls the business of all the Amiantit Group subsidiaries through its corporate management office in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The Amiantit Group is a leading industrial organisation with global strength and is comprised of companies in the Kingdom and abroad that manufacture various kinds of pipes, joints, fittings, tanks, rubber and insulation products, and related accessories. Other activities include own and transfer technology, and water project consultancy and management all around the world.
