OIL AND gas and chemical facilities in the GCC that need expert assistance on environmental issues are benefitting from the expansion of US-based Trinity Consultants in the region. Founded in 1974, Trinity is widely known for its expertise in industrial air quality concerns, but has expanded to meet broader multi-media needs.

Led by Arun Kanchan, Trinity has offices registered in Bahrain and Qatar and operates locally as Trinity Environmental Consultancy International.

Operating in the region for several years, Kanchan and his team have assisted numerous oil and gas industries with environmental impact assessments, greenhouse gas emissions management, the implementation of environmental information management systems, marine ecology studies, offshore and onshore meteorological data processing, advisement on regulatory trends and policy development, soil and groundwater monitoring and analysis, and most recently – the establishment of the region’s first advanced odour monitoring laboratory.

The odour monitoring laboratory was created to meet the needs of industrial clients who are keen to identify sources of odour pollution. It consists of a six panel automated olfactometer capable of odour measurement and analysis to all international olfactometery standards.

Trinity initially uses dispersion modeling to identify odour “hot spots”; monitors for odours and other pollutants (hydrogen sulphide, BTex, and other toxic volatiles); utilises the laboratory equipment for analysis of the odours and, based on the findings, develops recommendations for mitigation.

These capabilities enable GCC facilities to address odour complaints using local expertise and critical quick turnaround in order to protect sample integrity as well as chain of custody.

Trinity’s worldwide network of environmental experts has been critical for providing capacity building in the region. Over the past five years, Trinity has organised professional education courses for local professionals in the GCC on a wide range of environmental topics.
