

Oman’s contractor Al Hassan Engineering has won a $40.9 million contract from South Korea’s GS Engineering & Construction to carry out general construction works at Salalah methanol project.
Under the contract, Al Hassan engineering will provide civil engineering, construction, mechanical and pipe laying works at the project.
Works is to be completed over a 28-month period.
The Salalah methanol project is being developed in the Salalah Free Zone, southern Oman, by Salalah Methanol Co, owned by the state-run Oman Oil Co.
The project envisages the setting up of a 350 million Omani rials ($909 million) environmental friendly methanol plant with a daily production capacity of 3,000 tonnes.
The plant is scheduled to commence commercial operations in the first half of 2010. Half of the production will be exported, while the other part will cover domestic needs.
Al Hassan Engineering Company, established in 1998, provides EPC works in the oil, gas, power, water and waste water sectors.
