India has expressed its desire to get additional quantity of Omani LNG to meet its future energy requirements.

The topic of increased supplies came up for discussion during a meeting between N Ravi, secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Oman Oil Minister Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi in Muscat.
During the meeting, the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in energy fields, and matters of common concern were discussed.
Nassir bin Khamis Al Jashmi, undersecretary at the Omani Oil and Gas Ministry, said the Indian official expressed his country’s desire to get additional quantity of Omani LNG.
He said Al Rumhi pointed out there is a possibility to sell some immediate shipments of the liquefied gas if available from Oman LNG company and Qalhat LNG company.
The meeting also touched on the $956 million Oman-India fertilisers project based in Sur.
India and Oman also held the fifth meeting of the strategic consultation team as part of a regular dialogue between the two countries.
The Indian side was headed by Ravi while Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Ministry undersecretary, represented Oman.
The meeting discussed existing relations between the two countries and ways of boosting them in various fields, in addition to exchange of views on regional and international issues of common concern.
Meanwhile, Engineering, procurement and construction firm Punj Lloyd Limited said it has bagged a Rs 5.30 billion ($124.3 million) contract from Oman Gas Company for construction of pipelines.
The contract would involve construction of 24 inch, 40 km pipeline from Murayat to Barka and a 32 inch 252 km pipeline from Saih Rawl to Mukhaizna loopline with an optional scope of building of compression station at Nimr, Punj Lloyd said in a statement.
Punj Lloyd said the project was expected to be completed by October 2008.
