GE Oil & Gas ... transforming industry with intelligent machines

GE Oil & Gas is pushing the boundaries of energy sector transformation by leveraging the power of the Industrial Internet

For more than 80 years, GE has been supporting the Middle East region’s oil & gas industry with cutting edge technology that helped set firm foundations for the energy sector. In the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (Menat) region, GE Oil & Gas has over 1,800 team members, working in 43 locations including 20 workshops and manufacturing facilities.

GE Oil & Gas is pushing the boundaries of an energy sector transformation by leveraging the power of the Industrial Internet – the integration of Big Data and advanced analytics with heavy machinery – to help our partners achieve improved levels of productivity and operational efficiency.

With the region focusing on oil & gas asset optimization, especially in the current challenging environment, supporting our partners in achieving their growth goals is at the heart of everything we do at GE Oil & Gas. This means, being closer to our customers, strengthening knowledge sharing, promoting a culture of co-creation and tapping into the huge opportunities that the Industrial Internet opens up.

This complements GE being the world’s Digital Industrial Company, transforming industry with intelligent machines and solutions that are connected, responsive and predictive. GE is organized around a global exchange of knowledge, the 'GE Store,' through which each business shares and accesses the same technology, markets, structure and intellect.

An example of our cross-business technology sharing through the GE Store is the use of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) taken from our gas turbines for use to improve the aircraft engines efficiency.

A FULL-STREAM COMPANY

GE Oil & Gas is a ‘full-stream’ company, working through the value-chain from Exploration and Production, in the Midstream and the Downstream sector. Today, we are $19 billion leader designed for a world of ‘complex resources.’ The deeper, the hotter, the more remote, the more logistically difficult or environmentally sensitive the challenge – the more GE Oil & Gas can help.

Working on the things that matter in the oil and gas industry, GE Oil & Gas, in collaboration with our customers, push the boundaries of technology to bring energy to the world. From extraction to transportation to end use, we address today’s toughest challenges in order to Fuel the Future.

Highlighting our commitment to delivering the highest standards of operational and commercial excellence, we are now harnessing commercial and technological innovations such as the Industrial Internet network.

The Industrial Internet network operates on Predix, our dedicated software platform that can handle the highly complex scale, volume, velocity, security and regulations associated with industrial data gathered from industrial machinery.

The real-time data that is generated and evaluated for maximizing operational efficiency to help. The predictive analytics facilitated by the Industrial Internet enables our partners to identify issues, not when it happens, but even before it manifests, leading to reduced downtime for operational assets.

FOCUS ON LOCALIZATION

Underlining our commitment to be closer to our customers and to offer prompt technology and service support, GE Oil & Gas is opening a number of new facilities in the region.

The One GE Oil & Gas Multi-Modal Manufacturing & Technology Center in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), due to open shortly, will have a number of businesses operating under one rooftop. This is the realization of a long-held vision and a significant milestone for GE’s Oil & Gas business, not only in the UAE but across the MENAT region. It is also a clear signal to customers and stakeholders that GE Oil & Gas is serious about its commitments to localization through investing for the long-term, despite current market challenges.

The 20,000 square meter state-of-the-art center comprises four new workshops and offices; a Technology Solutions Center – an innovation and collaboration space for customers; a Monitoring & Diagnostic as well as a customer experience center using GE’s Predix software that will demonstrate how Big Data is used to improve operational efficiencies and reduce costs on installed equipment.

GE Oil & Gas will also be opening an expansion of the Pressure Control manufacturing plant at the One GE Oil & Gas facility in Dammam 2nd Industrial City in Saudi Arabia. The facility will manufacture Pressure Control equipment (wellheads, valves and other equipment to control the pressure and flow from wells) to serve not only Saudi Arabia but also be a potential source of exports for the Kingdom.

Future plans for One GE Oil & Gas at 2nd Industrial City Dammam are to package and assemble equipment for GE Oil & Gas businesses including expanding Pressure Control, Measurement & Control, Subsea Systems and Artificial Lifts.

GE Oil & Gas facilities across the region will promote localized innovation and focus on knowledge sharing with the next generation of local technical professionals. We are committed to build their skills as part of our long-term commitment to the region, further highlighted by the opening of a new technical and learning academy in Algeria shortly.

The GE Oil & Gas University, which offers advanced training for industry professionals, is another significant initiative by GE Oil & Gas to strengthen its localization efforts to achieve the growth vision of regional governments.

GE Oil & Gas will continue to focus on introducing advanced technologies, spearheaded by the Industrial Internet network, encourage co-creation by working with local partners and drive local human capital development in the region. This is our commitment and we are delivering on it.
