Baker ... MESC places great importance on innovation

The premier special cables provider in the region says it is a regular exhibitor at the largest oil and gas event and has consistently secured new partnerships at the previous shows

Middle East Specialized Cables Co (MESC), a specialist cable manufacturer, catering mostly to the global oil and gas industry, plans to promote some of its new products with high tech specifications at the upcoming Adipec 2015. These include specialist data cables manufactured for offshore platforms and a range of Silicon rubber fire survival products.

"We will be using Adipec as an opportunity to provide an update on our products and innovations for the oil, gas, and petrochemical products sector," says Simon Baker, vice president MESC UAE.

A regular exhibitor at Adipec, MESC says it has consistently secured new partnerships at the previous shows. "Adipec provides a good platform to create new opportunities and showcase our products and innovations to clients from different countries. Hopefully, this year will be even better than before. It is also a great event for networking and creating new business opportunities not just in the GCC, but also globally," says Baker.

The company is exhibiting at Stand No 13395 in Hall 13.

According to Baker, MESC relates very closely to the Adipec 2015 theme – ‘Innovation and Sustainability’ – as it places great importance on innovation and aims to stay ahead in its field. "An example of this is the lead sheath replacement cables that we have been manufacturing for several years but our regional competitors have started to offer recently. We are continuously listening to our customers’ needs and creating innovative products," he adds.

Known in the region as the largest manufacturer of industrial, instrumentation and process control cables in the Middle East, MESC continues to refine its production capabilities, installing and upgrading equipment where necessary.

Whilst no new offices or factories have been opened this year, the Riyadh-based company has upgraded its existing manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan. Production capacity in the UAE has continued to grow and has achieved output levels higher than the previous years, informs Baker.

"This year has seen MESC supply increasing quantities of product outside its traditional regional area and into countries in Asia, Africa and Europe," Baker quips.

Other new developments this year have included products certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) in the UK, the introduction of specialist data cables tailored for offshore oil platforms, and the registration of MESC cables with the Fieldbus Foundation.

"For 2016 there are no plans to open facilities or offices in new locations, however all options are being considered for the longer term," says Baker adding that the company will be continuing to diversify its product range and target new markets.

MESC also maintains an ambitious programme of product development in order to continue be the premier special cables provider in the region.

Just like its peers in the industry, MESC, too, admits that it has been impacted by major projects being reviewed or placed on-hold due to the huge reduction of oil prices since last nine months.

Despite this, the year so far has been positive due to the introduction of new products, more market diversification, and with increased output from the MESC UAE factory and the MESC MV cable factory, Baker says.

MESC has over 20 years’ experience operating in the Middle East and serving national and international NOCs and EPC contractors in the aim of becoming the most reliable brand names in the international cable market. In addition to the Middle East and Africa region, it also supplies cables in Asia Pacific and the CIS countries.

Manufactured to international standards, all cables, the company says, are type-tested and certified by third-party testing institutions. It is ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certified for all its activities from the selection of raw material suppliers to production and up to the delivery of the cables.

Established in 1993, MESC is a public company listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange. Saudi Arabia MESC has three sales offices – in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar while sales for the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and global exports are handled by the UAE sales office located in Dubai. Sales for Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and North Africa are handled by the Amman sales office in Jordan. The company works through a joint venture – Middle East Specialized Cables Amman – in Jordan.

The total staff strength of the company is 1400+ and overall sales turnover is $300 million.
