The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has revised its forecast for new nuclear capacity, predicting a 2.6-times increase from 377 GW in 2024 to 992 GW by 2050, said World Nuclear News.

The report, published in the 45th edition of Energy, Electricity and Nuclear Power Estimates for the Period up to 2050, shows that 417 nuclear power reactors were operational at the end of 2024, providing a global capacity of 377 GW.

The IAEA also increased its low case projection to 561 GW by 2050, with 24 per cent of 2050’s new capacity provided by small modular reactors.
