China has achieved a significant renewable energy milestone, with wind and solar power generating 26 per cent of the country’s electricity in April, surpassing the previous record of 23.7 per cent set in March, revealed Renewable Energy Institute.

Solar energy alone contributed 12.4 per cent of total generation, while wind accounted for 13.6 per cent.

The country’s energy transition has been rapid, with solar power’s share of electricity generation tripled since April 2020.

In 2024, China added 333 GW of new solar capacity, more than the rest of the world combined.

In Q1 2025, 72 GW of new solar capacity were installed, an 18 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
