The RLPC plant
The Ras Laffan Power Company (RLPC) is providing reliable supply of electric power and water to support the economic development of Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC) and the State of Qatar.
RLPC is the owner of the 756MW power and 40MIGD water plant situated in RLIC. The first phase of the plant was commissioned in May 2003. The full plant commissioning was done in 2004.
RLPC was the first independent power plant in Qatar and is a joint venture company owned by AES, QP, QEWC and GIC.
AES is the major shareholder and is also responsible for the operations of the facility.
The company is keen to undertake new power and water projects and to participate in the economic growth of the Qatar.
The RLIC is doing a good job by providing infrastructure and other facilities to new projects, says a company spokesman.
The concept of a well-organised industrial city is well maintained by RLIC, he says. Safety, security and essential services like a medical centre and fire fighting facilities are also provided.
Meanwhile, AES generates and distribute electric power that has the potential to serve 100 million people around the world.
