From complete plant turnaround to electrical and instrumentation services, Olayan Descon continues to provide quality work for clients such as Saudi Aramco and the Sabic affiliates. In its third decade of operation, Olayan Descon has entered the new Millennium by exploiting the strength of technical expertise and commercial depth of the Olayan Group.

With a mission of extending unmatched quality services to its clientele, Olayan Descon's operational horizon houses a very diversified blend of services.

These include industrial equipment manufacture, complete plant turnaround/ shutdown, plant modification, maintenance and refurbishment, electrical and instrumentation services to the giants like Saudi Aramco, the affiliates of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and Saudi Electric Co. (Saudi Joint Stock Co.) as well as the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).

Overseas, Olayan Descon's presence has been further strengthened by a recently-awarded contract in Kuwait from Tecnimont - Italy for Kuwait's Petrochemical Industries Corporation (PIC).

Olayan Descon's ongoing efforts to secure business from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas), Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC), Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QGPC) and companies under its umbrella as well as from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) are going with full vigour.

As an ISO 9001 certified company, Olayan Descon is authorised by ASME to use their symbols ''U2'', ''U'', ''S'', ''A'' and ''PP'' to offer coded pressure vessels and equipment, as well as authorised by The National Board of Boiler and pressure Vessel Inspectors to use the repair stamp ''R'' for refurbishment of pressure vessels.

The dedicated workforce of around 400 highly skilled, motivated and competent engineers, supervisors, welders, technicians, fitters, fabricators and machinists, proficient to work on various materials such as carbon steels, stainless steel and other alloy steels, are working day and night to ensure timely delivery and client satisfaction.

On the industrial equipment manufacturing horizon, Olayan Descon received the ''Excellence in Performance'' shield for work performed on the Yanpet expansion project - ethylene glycol facilities from Toyo Engineering Corporation - Japan.

The equipment supplied for this project to Toyo included 20 pressure vessels.

Other supplies for this project included five water headers of around 55m in length each, as well as pipeline installation for Fluor Daniel.

The company achieved yet another milestone by supplying a 150 m long flare stack weighing 130 tonnes, completely dressed up with piping, insulation, cable trays, ladders and platforms to Parsons International for the Petrokemya Olefins III project.

The efforts of the company to observe stringent quality control practices, as well as timely deliveries, earned it the opportunity to supply equipment for the Kemya olefins project, which included 23 types of carbon steel, stainless steel, kettle type, straight tubes and ''U'' tubes heat exchangers (aftercoolers, intercoolers, vapourisers, preheaters, condensers, subcoolers, chillers etc) and 28 types of pressure vessels (dilution drum, heavy oil separator, casing drain drum, spent caustic coalescer, yellow oil degasing drum, knock out drums, separators, stripper drums, sweet water exp. drum, dry and wet flare drums, blow down and flash drums etc) to ABB Lummus Global.

The largest pressure vessel among these was the 170 tonne propane vapouriser drum, which was 18 m long and seven m in diameter.

Another landmark on this project was the supply of pressure purge bins (5358 x 30,600 mm vertical top head dished with conical bottoms of 107 tonnes each) to MES-Parsons.

The key strength of the company for complete plant turnaround/shutdown is derived from the ability to mobilise personnel/manpower on an extremely fast-track note from a pool of 6,000 highly skilled and motivated people ready to undertake this challenge.

This attitude has earned a formidable repute as well as recognition from companies such as Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery (Sasref), Saudi European Petrochemical Co. (Ibn Zahr) etc.

The strong back-up of the maintenance teams with dedicated Mechanical as well as Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Departments comprising of experienced personnel gives the client a one window maintenance/refurbishment solution for plant modification and de-bottlenecking, retubing/ maintenance of heat exchangers and fin fan coolers, refurbishment of pressure vessels/columns/storage tanks, electrical and instrumentation services, calibration of test equipment, testing/overhauling of pressure safety and control valves and repair and refurbishment of MOVs etc.

The total works area is spread over 52,900 sq m including covered bays of 9,000 sq m.

The E&I department is fully equipped to carry out the refurbishment/repair and calibration of 'pressure safety valves' and 'control valves' in the shop, as well as on site.

A mobile E&I workshop is always on standby to carry out field services required for construction, plant upgrades, shutdown maintenance, cathodic protection and control valves.

The E&I shop is also the authorised repair and calibration centre of Fisher Rosemount PSV's.

Olayan Descon's mission is to emerge as a pivotal Saudi industrial equipment manufacturing and mantenance-orientated company in the Kingdom, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
