Specialising in sales and rental of high pressure water jet equipment and accessories over a wide range of applications.

Powerflo Rentals (Dubai) LLC was established in 1995 and is part of the Orwell Group of Companies based in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Orwell Group consists of 20 specialised divisions totalling 650 employees supplying equipment rental and services to the upstream oil and gas industry worldwide.

Powerflo Rentals (Dubai) LLC is moving into a new administration and workshop facility next January in Jebel Ali Industrial Area, according to the company.

The company provides its products to clients throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Egypt and is pushing hard to extend its services throughout the region.

By being focused on a specific product means that Powerflo can provide expert service to customers using the latest technologies.

Many water jet users are not fully aware of the capabilities of the equipment, or the parameters required to use the equipment efficiently, and this often results in unnecessary failure to achieve the desired result.

For example, for heat exchanger tube cleaning, one of the most common applications of water blasting, inefficiencies in the tools used can reduce the cleaning power of the high pressure pump to as little as 10 per cent or less of its full capability.

Powerflo has resolved tube cleaning problems in the Gulf, often by improving the efficiency of existing equipment.

The Powerflo Rigid Tube Lancing System, for example, has removed calcium/magnesium sulphate deposits, polyethylene and sulphur.

Effective heat transfer in coolers, condensers, natural circulation reboilers, evaporators and any horizontal or vertical tubes can be restored using the lancing systems.

A major application for water jets is the removal of paint, coatings and corrosion as a surface preparation method prior to recoating, commonly referred to as Hydroblasting.

The method has several advantages over abrasive blasting - no abrasives are used, thus eliminating contamination and damage to surrounding equipment such as pumps, compressors and instrumentation. In addition, there are no grit clean up or disposal costs.

Hydroblasting can be carried out on equipment in service such as storage tanks, pipelines, production plants and tankers at sea, thereby reducing costs associated with completing tight work schedules, plant shutdowns and vessel docking.

The method is also environmentally-friendly, while also reducing levels of chloride contamination on the prepared surface, limiting the potential for future corrosion. Hydroblasting removes the electrolytes which cause corrosion, leaving a cleaner surface and thus giving a longer coating life.

As part of the company's ongoing commitment to technology utilisation is the Magnablast, which it says is the ultimate surface preparation tool.

A remote controlled hydroblasting tool, the Magnablast is specifically designed for ultra-high pressure (UHP) waterjet coating removal on large steel areas such as the sides of ships and onshore storage tanks.

It is suitable for horizontal and vertical surfaces, without the need for scaffolding. This gives major cost savings, as well as high production rates.

This portable unit performs with the application of UHP water, up to 40,000 psi.

Multiple jet orifices direct the UHP water in a 480mm wide cleaning path as the Magnablast advances.

It unique design gives the operator total control of the rotation speed, drive speed and direction. For maximum efficiency the UHP water and spray-bar rotation can also be controlled by the operator from a small hand-held pendant.

The unique vacuum manifold design, along with a durable rubber seal provides complete water containment, eliminating the need for expensive containment equipment.

Powerflo sees itself as a problem-solver available both to end-users and contractors involved with high pressure water blasting. The company will be hosting a series of seminars in the last quarter of this year to demonstrate to Magnablast to the market, and familiarise attendees with the range of equipment and technology available. Seminars will run in the Saudi industrial cities of Jubail and Yanbu, while the company will also be participating in the 9th Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC 2000), which will be held from October 15 to 18 at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre.
