CB&I is the most complete energy infrastructure focused company in the world and a major provider of government services. For 125 years, the company has provided reliable solutions while maintaining a relentless focus on safety and an uncompromising standard of quality.
With 2013 revenue in excess of $11 billion and approximately 55,000 employees worldwide, CB&I is ranked No 5 in the Engineering News-Record list of Top 400 Contractors. The company’s unique business model – offering integrated services that span the life cycle of a project – provides a more complete supply chain solution to its customers. CB&I has more than 75 years of experience in the Middle East. The company began operations in the region in 1938 with Saudi Aramco in Raps Tanura, Saudi Arabia, and has worked continuously in the kingdom since 1944. In 1976, CB&I and a local partner formed Arabian CBI (ACBI) Limited, the company’s subsidiary in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
ACBI offers engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction services for the chemical, petrochemical, mining, food, water and petroleum industries. The company’s in-kingdom fabrication plant is located in Al Aujam near Qatif. The shop, which was recently expanded and is now one of CB&I’s largest, serves the local Saudi market and also exports to all of the GCC countries.
“ACBI meets or exceeds all Saudisation requirements for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors. A comprehensive training programme is available for engineers, construction professionals and managers,” says a company spokesperson. In addition to CB&I’s facilities in Saudi Arabia, the company’s Middle East presence includes regional offices in Dubai, a construction warehouse in Jebel Ali, and pipe fabrication shops in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
CB&I designs, engineers and constructs energy infrastructure projects, providing a full spectrum of proven process technologies and EPC solutions, as well as a comprehensive package of aftermarket services. The company’s position in the energy sector is broad and diverse, spanning markets including refining, petrochemicals, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and power generation, both nuclear and fossil. CB&I’s integrated business model offers a wide variety of solutions for all the markets in which the company operates. A diverse array of capabilities gives CB&I the flexibility to work on a project at any point – conceptual studies, technology selection, front-end engineering design (Feed), design, fabrication, construction, operations and maintenance, decommissioning – or for the entire life cycle of the project.
CB&I’s ability to execute projects across multiple offices reduces costs, increases the number of available engineers and designers, provides flexibility and leverages the company’s diverse talent effectively and efficiently. Its self-perform, direct-hire construction capabilities set the company apart from most other global contractors, while a comprehensive global management system ensures consistent project delivery with predictable cost, schedule and quality performance.
CB&I is currently working on a number of projects in the Middle East, including:
• A clean fuels project at the Mina Abdullah I refinery in Kuwait; project scope includes the engineering and procurement of two atmospheric residue desulphurisation units;
• Storage vessels for a grassroots refinery in Saudi Arabia; project scope includes the engineering, procurement and construction of crude oil storage tanks and pressure spheres;
• Ethylene technology and Feed services for the Liwa Plastics project in Oman; and
• Design and supply of delayed coking, hydrocracking, crude and vacuum heaters and a steam reformer for the Liwa Plastics project in Oman, as well as process technology for the delayed coker and hydrocracker units.
