MESC officials at the inauguration ceremony

RIYADH-BASED Middle East Specialized Cables Company (MESC), the leading manufacturer of all instrumentation and control cables in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region, recently inaugurated a new plant for producing Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) products in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The inauguration ceremony at the PVC factory was held in the presence of Eng Abdulaziz Al Namlah, chairman and the board executive director of MESC, Abdulaziz Al Duailej, president of MESC, other board members and senior management.

According to Eng Al Namlah, “the reason behind setting up a PVC compound plant in Riyadh is to cover the needs and requirements of all MESC plants and to have a steady supply of raw material that is up to the international standards. With this upstream expansion, MESC will be adding an extra competitive advantage to its existing and potential customers globally.”

The determination to gain wider brand recognition and its commitment to shine in the international arena is shifting the company from a local to a global player. MESC has been at the forefront of manufacturing advanced specialised cables and has carved a niche for itself in this industry. Over the last few years, MESC has consistently set quality benchmarks in the manufacturing industry and created a world-class group positioned for further growth in the future, he concluded.

The PVC plant has an advanced laboratory with an extensive range of test and measurement equipments to international standards. This plant will not only meet the requirements and needs of all MESC plants from PVC, but it will be able to serve and supply some of the local and international markets.

The production capacity of the plant is expected to exceed 36,000 tonnes per year (tpy).

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) products are used in diverse applications such as electric cables, tubes, hoses, door and window frames, toys, car accessories and other applications. Swiss company “Buss” supplied and installed the production lines in the plant according to the latest international standards. MESC will obtain major raw materials from Sabic (Saudi Basic Industries Corp) in addition to other local companies.

This expansion will provide additional employment opportunities and Saudi nationals will constitute more than 80 per cent of workers in the new plant.

MESC was founded in 1993 as a private local manufacturing company in the heart of the industrial city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to cater to the growing demand of the specialised cables in the region. It converted in 2007 into a joint stock company listed in the Saudi stock market. It operates regionally in the GCC, Middles East and North Africa.

Presently, MESC has three major manufacturing facilities, located respectively in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE. All plants are equipped with ultra modern facilities, high-tech machineries and laboratories for conducting various routine and cables type tests to guarantee long-term quality.

They operate with clearly defined and documented quality systems set in accordance with the guidelines of ISO9001:2004, ISO14001:2004, OHSAS 18001 and BASEC for all activities.
